Jyotish Ayurveda: Exploring the Connection Between Vedic Astrology, Ayurveda and Health
Beyond the Birth Chart: Understanding Health Through Astrology and Ayurveda
In the traditional worldview, health is understood through the interplay of body, mind, karma, and the natural rhythms of life. Astrology offers a framework for exploring planetary influences and the timing of significant life periods, while Ayurveda provides insight into individual constitution, balance, and lifestyle.
The Jyotish Ayurveda course at Life Veda Institute brings these two ancient sister sciences together, helping students develop a more comprehensive approach to interpreting health-related themes through many unique karmic birth charts.
Designed for those with a foundation in Ayurveda and an interest in astrology, the course explores how planetary combinations, planetary period cycles, transits, and karma can be studied alongside Ayurvedic principles to understand constitutional tendencies, potential imbalances, indicators of disease predispositions, and traditional approaches to supporting well-being.
What Will You Learn?
Kalachakra: Health Begins with Understanding Time
In the traditional framework, health is inseparable from time. Every individual lives within several overlapping rhythms: the daily cycle of the Sun, the lunar cycle, seasonal changes, planetary periods, and personal karmic cycles. We begin by understanding the wheel of time and its relationship with Ayurvedic daily routines and its effect on health.
Creating the Arogya Altar: A Sacred Space for Health
Explore the practical creation of a dedicated health altar—a sacred space for health-oriented spiritual practice, intention, and inner harmony. Learn how to select an appropriate location, arrange traditional symbolic elements, work with planetary archetypes, and incorporate sacred chants, geometric diagrams, light, offerings, and daily spiritual practice.
Prakriti, Vikriti and the Doshas
Learn how to explore a person’s Ayurvedic constitution through birth chart analysis and understand the characteristics of the doshas through the planets. You will also calculate the current state of imbalance, Vikritti, and examine how health-related themes may be addressed through future periods in relation to the planetary period calendar, transits, and the lunar mansion navigation system. The course covers dosha characteristics through planets, nutrition, supplements, and traditional practices for supporting balance.
Health Analysis Through the Birth Chart
Explore the relationship between the 12 Lagna rashis and their associated body types, strengths, and potential health sensitivities. You will learn to examine health-related indicators across relevant life houses and divisional charts (including the main D1 chart, D9, D6, D8, D27, D30, D7, and 108 division charts), and study how different planetary combinations may be interpreted together. Learn from numerous life health cases to recognize illness and recovery in the chart.
The course also introduces the role of Jaimini astrology, the Dharma meaning of health. Every soul needs to experience particular health imbalance to find her path – soul mission.
In addition to that, the course introduces the role of Atmakaraka, Gnatikaraka, Chandra, and Nakshatras in exploring health-related and karmic themes.
Traditional Remedies and Preventive Approaches
Discover how traditional astrological and Ayurvedic practices can be incorporated into an individual approach to well-being. Topics include:
- Nutrition, herbs, Ayurvedic supplements, and essential oils
- Mantras, mudras, crystals (ratna), and planetary yantras
- Sadhana and the Arogya altar for health
- Fasting (Upavasa) in relation to individual birth charts
- Dinacharya, daily lifestyle, and self-care routines
- Agnihotra, its sacred fire, and traditional Vibhuthi medicine
Our surroundings, relationships, emotional atmosphere, lifestyle, and connection with nature also contribute to well-being. You will also explore when strengthening a particular planet may or may not be considered appropriate within traditional astrological practice.
Health, Karma, and Timing
One of the most valuable dimensions of astrology is the Vimshottari Dasha – planetary period calendar, together with Moon nakshatras and planetary transits, which really helps us understand and anticipate life changes that may challenge an individual’s inner balance.
You will also be introduced to elective astrology principles for selecting auspicious timings for traditional practices and planned activities, including the commencement of therapies, detoxification treatments, or other interventions.
Additional topics include home orientation traditions with a focus on the uterus, fertility, menopause, ancestral patterns, and women’s well-being.

Practical Learning and Application
The course emphasizes connecting different techniques rather than interpreting individual chart indicators in isolation. Through practical exercises, you will develop your ability to analyze charts, recognize recurring patterns, and formulate traditional recommendations within the broader framework of astrology and Ayurveda.
These insights may enrich your own practice, support a deeper understanding of your family’s well-being, or complement your work as a therapist or holistic practitioner.
The aim is not simply to acquire more astrological knowledge, but to understand how astrology and Ayurveda can inform a more conscious relationship with the body, personal rhythms, and traditional approaches to health.
